TOP TEN THINGS TO DO IN LUXEMBOURG

  1. Join a walking tour to discover the hidden gems of the city. The tour begins at 11:00 AM at the Plaza de la Constitución, which is located very close to the city centre. Meet up with your tour guide in the Kadish Monument.
  2. Tired of walking? Explore the historical sights of the city, book a ride with Pétrusse Express Train and hop on hop off as you wish.
  3. Visit the Le Chemin de la Corniche, one of the most beautiful balconies in Europe.
  4. Walk around the main sights of the city. View the Plaza de la Constitución, learn about the history of the city, the Plaza de las Armas, the Luxembourg City Hall.
  5. Visit the Notre Dame, the only cathedral in the city, originally a Jesuit church.
  6. Visit the Grand Ducal Palace, the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. Guided Tours are organised from July until the end of August.
  7. Walk around Grund neighbourhood, a historic district in the centre of the city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the banks of the Alzette River.
  8. Take a photograph of Saint Michael’s Church, a Roman Catholic church, located in the Fishmarket.
  9. Walk around the Monument of Remembrance, a famous historical monument, known as the Golden Lady, commemorating thousands of Luxembourgers who volunteered during the World War.
  10. Explore the Bock Casemates, a huge complex of underground cellars and tunnels, begun in 1644, operated as a bomb shelter during the Second World War.

The Museums to Visit

  • Visit the National Museum of History and Art located in the Ville Haut. The Museum displays the art history of the city. The entrance is free apart from the temporary exhibitions that cost 7€ for adults. Explore the lovely coffee shop situated on the ground floor.
  • The Bank Museum is a small museum located in Luxembourg’s State and Savings Bank’s Head Office (Banque et Caisse d’Epargne de l’Etat). You will explore this tiny museum and discover a wide selection of coins, paper notes, traditional typewriters.
  • If you are an enthusiast of the old public transport then visit the Tram and Bus Museum. The museum exhibits a wide collection of vintage trams and souvenirs of the city’s public transportations since 1960.

  • A la soupe. Taste the soup of the day, order a dessert, drink a wine.
  • The Chocolate House is located opposite the Grand Ducal Palace. Taste from a wide range of delicious chocolate cakes, sip hot beverages, take away French chocolates and tiramisu.
  • La Boucherie: Go for a two course-meal menus, main and dessert or starter and main.
  • The IKKY Bar: Choose a mixed plate of sushi served with white wine.
  • Are you on a tight budget and would like a quick bite? Then visit Charles sandwiches to taste a yummy burger served with your favourite french fries.
  • The Golden bean. Sip hot chocolate with a shot of espresso, vanilla and whipped cream.
  • Are you vegetarian or vegan? Then visit Oak! Choose from a wide selection of organic, palm-oil free, plant-based and gluten-free foodies. Drink Andalousian gazpacho, taste from delicious risotto with seasonal veggies, beetroot soup to smokey quinoa.
  • The Downtown: Order a bowl of lentil soup with bacon and San Pellegrino sparkling water.
  • Would you like a little luxury at the end of your trip? Then visit Coco Mango to enjoy a great panorama of the city.

How to travel to the city from Luxembourg Airport

Get to town from Findel Airport by taking the bus No 16. You don’t have to pay a ticket, public transport in Luxembourg is free of charge since March 2020.

The Best day-trips from Luxembourg

  1. Looking for the best day trips outside Luxembourg? Then take the bus lines 111 and 110 to Echternach, the oldest town of the country. Visit the historic monastery Abbey of Echternach, explore the city by walking around the Echternach Lake, practice hiking in the Gorges du Loup.
  2. Take the train to Ettelbruck, then ride the 570 bus to visit Vianden, a picturesque commune situated in the northeast of the country. Get your camera ready to capture those amazing landscapes.

How to Plan a multi-country trip from Luxembourg

  1. Ride the FlixBus from Luxembourg city to Trier, Germany’s oldest city. The historic city, which lies on the banks of the Moselle river, offers a range of historical and archaeological attractions and plenty of choices of bars and restaurants.
  2. Take a 40 minute train ride to reach Metz, a beautiful city in France that borders Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany.
  3. If you would like to travel a little further, then ride the train or take the bus to Brussels. Travel by train from Luxembourg City to the Belgian capital for 2 hours and 45 minutes or ride Flix Bus if you are on a tight budget.
